What is Bleeblu?

Bleeblu is my super hero alter ego! To be honest, I didn't want to be found by acquaintances on Facebook so I built it in my head. I have just recently unmasked myself to the public.

My real name is Mark Harless. I am currently studying photography in Huntsville, Alabama. When I am not beating up crooks you can find me snapping away with my camera. I mainly use a Finepix X10, Vivitar 283 and Photoshop CS5 to create my images.

I would consider myself creative. I am full of ideas but my networking is lacking. If you are interested in shooting please get ahold of me. I would love to hear from you!

Does Photography Need to Tell a Story?

I like to post my photos on different forums to get critiqued. What I’ve been hearing over and over from many different people is that some of my photos lack a story. I can understand that it would help the viewer respond to the photo but do photographs need to tell a story?

I started a thread on Reddit and have received many responses from all directions. A very interesting read. Check it out!

Diva: Before and After

Her name is Diva and she’s my friend’s American Bully. I took this photo a few months ago on my bed. She was barking and bouncing side-to-side until she plopped herself down just like the photo above. The second picture is her about four months after that. She’s grown into a beast but still the most lovable dog I’ve ever met.

The above picture I posted on Flickr and received many favorites and comments. I posted it on my Tumblr and only received a handful of likes and reblogs. A few weeks later a Tumblr user linked the photo to his blog and the views skyrocketed. Right now that version of the image has just under 22,000 notes. I’ve seen her pop up on my dashboard every now and then from other blogs.

One of my friends told me they saw it on Twitter and starting doubting it was my photo. Then another friend told me Diva was on Pinterest. Then on Facebook. I got a call yesterday from a friend who told me someone posted it on Facebook from Reddit. I was on a road trip at the time and my phone service was cutting in and out but I did manage to see that it reached number #15 on the front page. Unfortunately I wasn’t properly credited because the image was uploaded on Imgur. I tried to get the issue resolved with the OP but didn’t know that he couldn’t change the link. Oh well…

So this is my little story about Diva and I. Probably the cutest puppy picture I’ve ever seen. I hope she brought a smile to everyone’s face.

Here are the links to the two photos…

Fun fact! I bounced the flash off the ceiling and it picked up some of the color. She’s not actually brown but a blue color.

I Need Style

I think I’m losing plenty of possible followers here, Facebook and Flickr because I’m trying to cater to everyone. I have pictures of friends at a party, a half naked girl on top of me and someone dressed as Batman.

I need to find my niche. The problem with that is I just generally like taking pictures of anything appealing and sharing it with everyone. A photographer I look up to, however, is Lissy Elle. She found her niche and is doing very well. If you like one of her photos you’ll most likely enjoy the rest.

I need my own style!
